Police arrest notorious thug terrorising Kano communities

Must read

Police authorities in Kano have apprehended a man described as a key figure behind recurring street violence and robberies across parts of the state.

The suspect, Auwalu Ali, widely known by the alias Auwalu Dan Daba, was arrested during a targeted operation in the Dorayi area after security operatives tracked his movements through actionable intelligence.

According to the Kano State Police Command, investigators had linked the 26-year-old to the planning and coordination of multiple thuggery networks blamed for assaults and thefts targeting residents, particularly at night.

A police source familiar with the operation said the arrest followed weeks of discreet monitoring.

“This suspect was not acting alone. He played a central role in mobilising gangs and directing attacks on innocent people,” the source disclosed.

Moreover, the command confirmed that officers attached to the Dorayi Police Division carried out the arrest without resistance, preventing what it described as a potential escalation of violence in the area.

In a related development, police also responded to an emergency situation in Sharada Quarters, where suspected armed robbers reportedly attacked residents, triggering panic within the community.

During the incident, one of the suspects was reportedly overpowered and killed by an angry mob before officers could fully take control of the scene.

However, a woman who was injured during the attack was rescued and rushed to the hospital.

Police authorities said the victim received urgent care at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. Notably, a serving police officer volunteered to donate blood to stabilise her condition.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved, describing their actions as a reflection of professionalism and dedication to public safety.

“The decision of an officer to donate blood in the line of duty shows the human side of policing and our commitment to protecting lives,” Bakori said.

Furthermore, the police chief thanked residents for their cooperation, stressing that timely information from the public remains critical to dismantling criminal networks across the state.

The Kano State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through approved emergency contact channels, as efforts to curb crime continue.
