Defence minister Musa signals imminent move into APC

Must read

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has hinted that his entry into partisan politics is only a matter of time, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) his likely destination.

Speaking during a televised political programme, the former Chief of Defence Staff explained that he is still adjusting to life beyond military service.

However, he made it clear that his current position marks a gradual shift toward active political engagement.

Moreover, Musa acknowledged the role the APC played in his public service trajectory, noting that the party provided the platform that led to his emergence first as Chief of Defence Staff and later as Defence Minister.

According to him, such backing naturally comes with a sense of political alignment.

“I see myself at a point of transition,” Musa said. “Having served under this administration, it is only logical to identify with the political structure that entrusted me with responsibility.”

Furthermore, the Defence Minister emphasised that President Bola Tinubu deserves broad-based support to successfully navigate the country’s current security and governance challenges.

He emphasised that national stability requires unity among those in leadership positions.

In his words, “The President needs total backing, and I am fully prepared to contribute in whatever way strengthens the system.”

Hence, Musa’s comments have fuelled speculation that his formal induction into the APC may not be far off, adding another high-profile figure to the ruling party’s political ranks as the administration consolidates its support base.
