APC open to Kwankwaso’s defection – Chairman

Must read

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party is open to receiving the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, if he decides to defect.

Yilwatda made the remark amid ongoing political realignments in Kano State, which have continued to generate reactions from key political actors, including Kwankwaso.

The comment followed the recent defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, from the NNPP to the APC, alongside members of the state House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Sunday, the APC chairman said the party was not currently in talks with the former Kano governor but would welcome him if he chose to join.

“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to come into the APC. If he decides to join, he will be warmly received, even though there are no negotiations at the moment,” Yilwatda said.

He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign travels, describing them as necessary engagements undertaken in the national interest.

According to him, Tinubu’s experience, exposure and international networks enable the President to secure investments and agreements within a short time.

Yilwatda added that the President’s trips were aimed at attracting foreign investment, strengthening bilateral relations and addressing security concerns, urging Nigerians to see them as sacrifices made for national development.
