Quiet diligence inside Edo State Government House has earned unexpected rewards, as Governor Monday Okpebholo gifted three staff members brand new SUVs after personally assessing their work habits.
Rather than making a public announcement, the governor altered his routine and observed operations discreetly, watching how staff conducted themselves beyond official hours.
According to him, the exercise was meant to test consistency, not punctuality for show.
Notably, none of the workers closed early or abandoned duty, a conduct Okpebholo described as rare and commendable within public service.
He said the decision to reward them followed days of silent monitoring.
“Public service demands discipline even when no one is watching,” the governor said.
“I saw staff who arrived early, stayed late, and worked without cutting corners. That level of commitment deserves recognition.”
Moreover, Okpebholo stressed that the gesture was intended to motivate the wider civil service, not just the beneficiaries.
“Hard work should never be ignored,” he said. “When you serve Edo State with integrity and consistency, excellence will always find you.”
Hence, the governor urged civil servants across the state to remain focused on service delivery, adding that leadership is constantly observing performance, even without formal evaluations.
