PDP Turaki faction rejects court nullification of Ibadan convention

Must read

The Kabiru Turaki-led group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has swiftly signalled its intent to challenge a fresh ruling from the Federal High Court in Ibadan.

The court turned down the faction’s request for a mandamus order on Friday.

Judges explained that issuing such a directive would effectively overstep into matters already decided by other courts at the same level.

Meanwhile, party officials wasted no time in responding by labelling the outcome as anticipated but far from final.

A senior spokesperson for the group declared, “This ruling changes nothing about our standing. We are moving forward with full confidence in the higher courts.”

The Turaki camp, which traces its authority to the Ibadan national convention, stressed that its structure stays solid and operational.

Legal representatives have received clear instructions to lodge an appeal without delay.

The team plans to exhaust every available judicial avenue to safeguard the faction’s interests.

Party leaders have also called on supporters to stay composed. “There’s zero reason to panic,” a statement emphasised. “Our renewal drive is advancing steadily, and we trust the appellate process will affirm our legitimacy.”

AFRIPOST reports that internal rifts have plagued the PDP for months with competing groups clashing over who holds rightful control of the party’s national leadership.

Observers note that the ongoing legal tussle could influence the PDP’s strategy as key elections approach.

One party insider remarked, “We remain focused and united under Turaki’s guidance. The appeals court will have the last word, and we are optimistic about a favourable outcome.”
