Many residents are feared dead while several others were reportedly abducted following an attack by suspected gunmen on Okporojo community in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Sources said the assailants stormed the community in the early hours, ambushing residents and unleashing violence that forced many to flee for safety.
It was gathered that several houses were set ablaze during the invasion, while some residents were killed before others were taken away by the attackers.
Unverified reports from the area claimed that no fewer than five persons were killed during the assault, heightening tension and fear among neighbouring communities.
A video that has since gone viral on social media showed burning houses and distraught residents calling on the state government and security agencies to intervene urgently.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Efforts to get a reaction from the state government were also unsuccessful, as authorities remained silent while residents continued to express concern over the worsening security situation in the area.
