BREAKING: Champions League play-off, last-16 draws unveiled

Must read

The draw for the UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs and Round of 16 was concluded on Friday, setting up several high-profile clashes across Europe.

Top of the billing is a heavyweight encounter between Benfica and Real Madrid, renewing a rivalry that spilled into the final day of the league phase.

Madrid had claimed a 4–2 away win in Portugal, a result that pushed Benfica into the play-offs and denied the Spanish giants automatic qualification.

Under the new competition format, clubs were paired based on their final positions in the league phase, with teams that finished ninth to 16th seeded, while those placed 17th to 24th were unseeded.

The draw produced a mix of evenly matched ties and potential blockbusters, with former champions and ambitious challengers set to battle for places in the Round of 16.

In the knockout play-offs, Borussia Dortmund were drawn against Atalanta, while Olympiacos will face Bayer Leverkusen.

Galatasaray are set for a showdown with Juventus, and Club Brugge will take on Atletico Madrid.

Elsewhere, Monaco were paired with Paris Saint-Germain in an all-French tie, Qarabag will battle Newcastle United, Benfica meet Real Madrid, and Bodo/Glimt face Inter Milan.

The knockout play-off round is scheduled for February 17–18 and February 24–25, while the Round of 16 matches will be played on March 10–11 and March 17–18.
