Kano commissioner urges deputy governor to consider resignation

Must read

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has said the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, should consider resigning if he no longer shares the same political alignment with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Waiya made the remark during a live radio programme on Muhasa Radio while reacting to reports that the deputy governor had chosen to remain loyal to the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, despite recent political developments involving the governor.

The commissioner argued that differences in political loyalty at the highest level of government could erode trust and weaken effective governance, particularly given the deputy governor’s strategic role in the administration.

According to him, some commissioners who felt uncomfortable with the current political direction had earlier resigned, adding that the same option remained open to the deputy governor if alignment had become difficult.

Waiya said governance thrives on shared vision and trust, warning that suspicion could arise if senior officials pursued divergent political paths while still participating in executive decision-making.

He also suggested that political ambition might be influencing the deputy governor’s stance, noting that while ambition was legitimate, conflicting interests with government policy should be addressed honourably.

The commissioner, however, stressed that the final decision rested with the deputy governor, adding that the Yusuf administration remained committed to its “Kano First” agenda and expected loyalty to the state’s development goals above personal or factional interests.
