Katsina: Three officers killed in police, bandits’ clash

Must read

A deadly security breach has left three police officers dead after gunmen launched a calculated ambush on a routine patrol in Katsina State, heightening concerns over persistent banditry in the area.

According to the police, the officers were carrying out standard anti-crime surveillance when they were suddenly confronted by heavily armed assailants who struck without warning, turning an ordinary patrol into a violent firefight.

Moreover, security sources explained that the attackers opened sustained gunfire on the patrol team, forcing the officers to engage in a defensive response aimed at preventing further casualties and protecting nearby communities.

However, despite repelling the assault, three officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the exchange, while two others were injured and later evacuated for urgent medical care.

A police official, speaking on the development, said the wounded personnel were stabilised at a nearby hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

“Our priority is their recovery, while ensuring those behind this attack are brought to justice,” he said.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred along the Guga–Bakori corridor in Bakori Local Government Area, a route that has witnessed repeated security operations in recent months.

Furthermore, the command disclosed that a coordinated investigation and manhunt have been activated to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

“We are expanding intelligence-led operations across the axis to dismantle the criminal network responsible,” the spokesperson said.

Security analysts note that the latest attack underscores the growing risks faced by security operatives on patrol duties, even as authorities intensify efforts to curb armed banditry across Katsina and neighbouring states.
