A Delta State man has been arrested for allegedly killing his childhood friend over a dispute involving $1,000, police confirmed on Monday.
The suspect, 28‑year‑old Oghenegare, was taken into custody in Asaba following the death of 27‑year‑old Courage in the Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe revealed that both men were involved in online fraud, commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo, and the confrontation erupted over a disputed transaction.
“During an argument over the $1,000 deal, the suspect struck the victim on the head. Courage later died from his injuries,” Edafe explained.
Police shared a video in which Oghenegare admitted the men were close friends, but tensions escalated when Courage allegedly blocked him from completing the online deal.
“The disagreement got out of hand, and that led to the fatal blow,” the suspect reportedly said in the recording.
Edafe expressed concern over the rising wave of violent deaths in Delta State, linking them to anger, substance abuse, and avoidable conflicts.
“We urge residents to manage disputes peacefully and avoid letting disagreements escalate into violence,” he added.
The Delta State Police Command said a thorough investigation is ongoing and promised that Oghenegare would face the full force of the law as the case develops.
