The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described the administration of President Bola Tinubu as the most Christian-friendly government since Nigeria’s creation.
Akpabio made the remark on Tuesday during a reception rally held at the Jos Polo Ground to formally welcome Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said Tinubu had demonstrated fairness and inclusiveness through his actions and policies.
“Let me place it on record that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is the most Christian-friendly administration since the creation of Nigeria. He has shown this through his actions and deeds and treats Christians and Muslims equally,” Akpabio was quoted as saying.
The Senate President congratulated Governor Mutfwang on his decision to join the ruling party, describing it as a move that had brought Plateau State to the centre of national politics.
He assured residents of the state that insecurity would soon be addressed, pledging the National Assembly’s support for the Plateau State Government across critical sectors.
“We will support your government in all areas to improve the lives of your people. We will not abandon you. With this development, all the states in the North-Central geopolitical zone are now in the APC, and that is significant,” he said.
Akpabio also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigerians regardless of their religious beliefs, noting that the National Assembly would continue to support President Tinubu through the approval of funds to address security challenges and close down internally displaced persons’ camps across the country.
In his address, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to party leaders who facilitated his defection, particularly Senator Akpabio.
He described the move as historic, saying it reflected the collective decision of the people of Plateau State to align with the APC and support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
“Today marks a landmark moment. It is a clear statement by the people of Plateau, who have come out in their thousands to declare support for the APC. We are beginning a journey towards unity, peace and development, which our forefathers envisioned,” the governor said.
