President Bola Ahmed Tinubu momentarily stumbled and fell on Tuesday during a ceremonial welcome event in Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Türkiye, where he is undertaking a state visit focused on deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Türkiye.

The incident occurred at the presidential complex as President Tinubu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took part in an official reception.

In a video seen by AFRIPOST, the Nigerian leader lost his balance while approaching a section of the welcoming delegation, briefly falling to the ground before being assisted to his feet by officials present.

Turkish and Nigerian officials confirmed that the President’s health remained stable, and there were no reported injuries following the stumble.

The ceremony resumed with both leaders proceeding with scheduled engagement protocols.

President Tinubu arrived in Ankara on Monday, January 26, 2026, for a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including trade, security, education, and investment, building on existing cordial relations between the two nations.

During his stay, Tinubu is expected to hold high-level discussions with President Erdoğan and other Turkish officials, culminating in memoranda of understanding designed to enhance collaborative frameworks between Nigeria and Türkiye.
