Dangote refinery raises petrol price

Must read

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has adjusted its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit from N699 to N799 per litre, marking the end of its festive season price intervention.

The development means MRS filling stations will now dispense petrol at N839 per litre, the refinery announced in a statement on Monday evening.

The company explained that the price adjustment followed the conclusion of the festive period, during which it had deliberately subsidised fuel costs to ease the financial burden on Nigerians during a season of increased household expenditure.

“Following the festive season, PMS prices have been realigned to sustainable levels that will ensure long-term market stability and affordability. The current gantry price stands at N799 per litre, with MRS retail outlets dispensing at N839 per litre,” the statement read.

The refinery emphasised its dedication to maintaining market equilibrium and ensuring consistent nationwide availability of petrol.

According to the facility, the recent festive intervention represented the second consecutive year it had absorbed significant costs in Nigeria’s interest, having provided logistics support in 2024 and implemented price cuts in 2025 to enhance affordability and maintain market stability.

However, the refinery expressed disappointment that numerous filling stations failed to pass on the reduced prices to consumers during the festive period, thereby depriving Nigerians of the intended benefits.

“Many filling stations did not reflect the reduced price at the pump, preventing Nigerians from enjoying the benefits of the price support,” the statement noted.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, disclosed that the facility continues to supply approximately 50 million litres of PMS daily to the domestic market, with distribution and evacuation activities proceeding without disruption nationwide.

Bird highlighted the refinery’s operational versatility, noting its capacity to process diverse crude oil grades and intermediate feedstocks, which enables continuous petrol supply even during scheduled maintenance periods.

“This operational flexibility guarantees that domestic supply remains steady and uninterrupted,” he stated.

Bird further stressed that as a local producer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery serves as a buffer against import-driven price fluctuations and external supply chain disruptions, positioning itself as a stabilising factor in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery remains committed to providing energy security, price stability, and sustained value for the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
