BREAKING: WAEC announces date for 2026 CBT for private candidates

Must read

West African Examinations Council has formally published the examination timetable for the 2026 Common-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, First Series, signaling the start of the final countdown to the assessment.

Details of the schedule, including subjects, dates, and examination times, were shared through an official update on WAEC’s verified X account, giving candidates early guidance for structured preparation.

According to the council, the timetable is designed to help candidates plan effectively and avoid clashes or last-minute confusion.

“This schedule is intended to guide candidates through a smooth and organised examination process,” WAEC said in the notice.

Furthermore, private candidates were urged to study the timetable carefully and confirm all subject arrangements well ahead of their examination dates to prevent errors that could affect participation.

WAEC also stressed the importance of strict compliance with examination rules and technical requirements, warning that failure to follow laid-down guidelines could lead to avoidable complications during the test.

The 2026 CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, First Series, is scheduled to commence on January 28 and will be conducted entirely as a computer-based test.

Officials explained that the continued use of the CBT format reflects the council’s broader push to modernise examinations, enhance efficiency, and improve the overall assessment experience for candidates across the region.

As preparations intensify, education stakeholders say the early release of the timetable provides candidates with a crucial advantage in planning and revision ahead of the high-stakes examination.
