Nigeria’s power sector has plunged into turmoil as the country’s national electricity grid collapsed twice in just four days, leaving millions of homes, businesses, and public facilities without power.
The sudden blackouts have reignited concerns over the reliability of the nation’s energy infrastructure.
The first collapse occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, when the grid suffered a total system failure, disrupting electricity supply across all regions.
Efforts by operators to restore power were successful, but the stability didn’t last long after the grid failed again on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Electricity distribution companies have reported the fresh collapse and have assured Nigerians that they are already working on the restoration of electricity across the country.
Meanwhile, energy analysts have warned that without urgent structural improvements and stronger grid management, Nigeria may face recurring collapses that threaten economic activity and public safety.
Although, authorities have assured the public several times that a detailed investigation will commence on the frequent grid collapse, nothing has changed.
