Obi Cubana speaks amid backlash over APC appointment

Must read

Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has broken his silence following criticism over his recent association with a pro–All Progressives Congress political group, choosing to shift attention away from partisan debates.

The backlash followed his appointment as South-East coordinator of the City Boy Movement, an APC-aligned group campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

News of the role spread quickly online, triggering intense reactions across social media platforms.

Critics accused the nightlife entrepreneur of endorsing an administration they blame for Nigeria’s economic difficulties.

Moreover, several commentators argued that his public influence should be kept separate from partisan politics, especially at a time of widespread hardship.

However, Cubana appeared unmoved by the controversy.

In a message shared on his Facebook page, he indicated that his priorities lie elsewhere, framing his current focus as being centred on faith rather than politics.

According to him, his most pressing responsibility at this stage of life is spiritual, not political.

“Right now, my attention is on winning souls for Christ Jesus and remaining productive in God’s work,” he said, adding that his week had been marked by “blessings, fruitfulness, and deep moments in God’s presence.”

Meanwhile, away from the political storm, Cubana has continued to engage in public-facing initiatives nationwide.

Notably, he recently paid a visit to the Delta State Government House in Asaba alongside Pastor Jerry Eze.

During the visit, the businessman openly commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership style, describing it as people-centred and driven by clear developmental goals.

He said the administration reflected “discipline, vision, and a genuine concern for the welfare of citizens.”

Furthermore, Cubana expressed confidence in the governor’s stewardship of the state, stating that Delta was on a positive trajectory.

“When leadership is rooted in the fear of God, progress becomes inevitable. Delta State is clearly moving in the right direction,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to private-sector investment in the state, assuring that the Millennium City project would be delivered by December 2026.

In addition, he thanked the governor for maintaining open channels of engagement with investors and stakeholders.

Hence, while political reactions continue to swirl around his APC-linked appointment, Cubana appears determined to keep his public messaging anchored on faith, governance support, and long-term development rather than online criticism.
