The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has warned individuals visiting him in custody to desist from publicly discussing or broadcasting details of their meetings.
Kanu gave the directive through his lawyer, Nnemeka Ejiofor, who relayed the message in a video made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to Ejiofor, the IPOB leader has restricted public communication about his discussions with visitors, stressing that any message meant for the public would only be conveyed through his legal team or the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful.
Ejiofor said Kanu also dismissed claims that money was required to gain access to him, insisting that he had never collected funds from anyone seeking to visit him.
He explained that Kanu noted that visits to him were not a money-making venture and urged those wishing to see him to follow the laid-down procedures of the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The lawyer added that prospective visitors are required to present valid means of identification and passport photographs at the correctional facility, where they would be screened before their requests are forwarded for approval.
Kanu, who is currently being held at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, has continued to receive visits from lawyers and associates amid his ongoing legal proceedings.
