ADC lacks credible policy alternatives – Dogara faults opposition

Must read

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has challenged the African Democratic Congress to present concrete policy proposals as the 2027 elections approach, saying the opposition party lacks credibility without offering alternatives to President Bola Tinubu’s reforms.

Dogara, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, accused the ADC of prioritising complaints over substantive engagement, claiming the party had yet to articulate a distinct vision for Nigeria.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, he argued that opposition rhetoric had been characterised by frustration rather than practical solutions.

“The conversation isn’t about the people. What I’m hearing is just frustration over certain issues. Where is their rallying vision? I’m yet to see it,” the ex-speaker said.

He maintained that fault-finding without presenting better options undermined the opposition’s credibility with voters.

“They need to table superior alternatives to the President’s initiatives. We can then examine those proposals and determine if they’re improvements on current policies. Without that, nobody will regard them as serious contenders. It’s empty politicking,” Dogara stated.

The former lawmaker dismissed opposition attacks as lacking substance and urged critics to propose constructive solutions instead of dwelling on grievances.

Dogara equally appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with Tinubu’s reform agenda, especially regarding economic and security challenges.

“Progress is evident, even if the impact hasn’t fully materialised. Consider how many years these security problems have persisted before this administration,” he noted.

He argued that inherited crises required time to resolve, while commending the government for addressing previously ignored sectors.

“No administration possesses instant solutions to deep-rooted problems. However, since assuming office, this government has demonstrated commitment in neglected areas,” he added.
