The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted materials believed to be explosive devices during a security operation in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of the state.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, who said the items were recovered during a routine stop-and-search exercise.
Ayanlade disclosed that the truck used to convey the suspected devices was immediately impounded, while the driver was arrested at the scene.
He said the police acted on credible intelligence that led operatives to intercept the vehicle and secure the items without incident.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, upon being briefed, ordered an extensive investigation to establish the exact nature and purpose of the materials.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit were subsequently deployed to handle the items and subject them to forensic examination.
