Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed a terrorist and recovered multiple arms during coordinated offensives conducted across parts of the North West between January 21 and 22, 2026, as security forces sustained pressure on insurgent networks in the region.
The operation, carried out by troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force with support from Department of State Services assets, took place during a fighting patrol in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area.
Military sources said the patrol encountered armed terrorists, leading to a gun battle.
During the exchange, one terrorist was neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding forests with gunshot injuries.
Troops also recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles suspected to have been used by the terrorists for attacks and movement.
Furthermore, troops of 1 Brigade, working alongside the Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA Mobile Strike Team, acted on credible intelligence indicating that wounded terrorists were receiving treatment in Bingi Forest.
The operation led to the discovery and destruction of a makeshift medical facility allegedly used by the terrorists, dealing a significant blow to their support and recovery network.
Reacting to the outcome of the operations, the military said the successes underscored the effectiveness, responsiveness and resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in degrading terrorist capabilities and restoring peace and security across the North West.
The update was contained in a statement issued on January 22, 2026, by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi.
