Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the undisputed leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, according to Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication.
Bwala, speaking on Channels Television emphasized that party hierarchy gives governors the authority to lead the APC at the state level.
He insisted that Fubara should exercise his mandate without political interference.
“Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers. Nyesom Wike is not a member of our party and therefore cannot speak on its behalf,” Bwala stated.
“Wike may have influence within the PDP, but when it comes to APC matters, the governor is in charge.”
The adviser further highlighted the president’s respect for party procedures and the rule of law.
“President Tinubu believes in due process and ensuring party protocols are followed. No one should obstruct Governor Fubara from governing Rivers State,” he added.
Bwala also addressed claims that Wike, as a former governor and FCT minister, enjoys certain privileges. He stressed that compensation or benefits provided by the federal government should never override national interests.
“The president gives latitude, but once the line is crossed, there are consequences,” Bwala said.
On the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Fubara, Bwala reiterated that all actions must align with constitutional and legal frameworks.
“Court orders currently prevent the impeachment, and the APC is clear: the governor must be allowed to perform his duties,” he noted.
He concluded by underscoring a broader principle: “Even where states are governed by the PDP, the president believes in respecting the rights of governors to govern effectively, irrespective of party affiliation.”
