President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting separately with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The governors arrived at the State House at different times on Thursday, with Mutfwang reportedly getting to the villa around 3:00 pm and Makinde following shortly after at about 3:30 pm, according to observations by PUNCH.
The meetings come amid ongoing political realignments as stakeholders begin consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, remains one of the few PDP governors yet to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, even as several others have joined the APC in recent months.
The Oyo governor is widely viewed as having presidential ambitions and is believed to be positioning himself for the PDP’s ticket in the 2027 elections.
Mutfwang, who recently left the PDP for the APC, is among the latest opposition figures to join the ruling party. Thursday’s meeting was his first known engagement with President Tinubu since his defection.
The president has in recent times engaged governors from across party lines in a series of meetings, underscoring the fluid political atmosphere as the country approaches the next general elections.
