The Lagos State Government has impounded 70 commercial motorcycles operating illegally on restricted routes across the Island axis of the state.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the routine clean-up enforcement exercise commenced at about 9:30am.
Osiyemi said the operation covered major routes including Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, Abraham Adesanya Junction, and 2nd Rainbow.
He explained that the enforcement targeted the highway ban on commercial motorcycles, street trading, illegal parking, unapproved bus stops, and other activities disrupting public safety.
“Seventy motorcycles were confiscated, restoring calm, order, and free traffic flow,” the commissioner stated.
On the fate of the impounded motorcycles, Osiyemi said they would be forfeited to the state through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
The ministry appreciated residents for their cooperation, adding that it remained committed to keeping Lagos moving safely and smoothly.
