2027: We will avoid what happened in Ekiti- Oyo PDP

Must read

The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has disclosed that the party will avoid what happened recently in Ekiti State in Oyo State in 2027.

The committee made this revelation in a statement signed by its Chairman, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso.

The statement was made available to Afripost Thursday morning.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not publish name of the PDP candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

It was learnt that the exclusion of the name of the PDP candidate was as a result of internal crises within the party.

But, Akinoso while reacting said that the party will avoid what happened in Ekiti State recently in 2027 in Oyo State.

He affirmed that the party will present candidates that will be recongnised in line with the provisions of the law in 2027 general elections.

He added that the exclusion was caused due to the inability of the party to present its candidate within the stipulated time.

He said that the party will work to avoid what happened in Ekiti State in Oyo State in 2027.

Akinoso said, “The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, hereby make clarifications as regards the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to include the candidate of our party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the final list of the political parties participating in the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 2026.

“We will recall that the immediate past National Working Committee constituted a reconciliation committee which recommended that the National Convention should be put on hold and a Caretaker Committee be set up to continue the day-to-day running of the party, until all pending legal and civil matters are resolved.

“However, the Turaki-Makinde faction went ahead to hold the self-glorification convention on the 15th and 16th December, 2025. The after-math is what led to our members in the Ekiti and Osun States being short-changed in the 2026 off-season elections. Such was as reflected in the final INEC list of Tuesday, January 20th, 2026.

“According to INEC, the decision was predicated on the inability of the party to act within the confine of the law guilding selection process. But as a great party, with good track records of internal democracy, a repeat of such ugly occurrences should be prevented.

“The Oyo State PDP caretaker Committee, under the leadership of Professor Rahman Akinoso, hereby assured our numerous party members that the party is assiduously working towards having legally recognised candidates in 2027 general elections. The committee enjoined all party members and aspirants to cooperate with us towards achieving this goal”.
