Pastor lands in police custody over alleged sexual abuse of two minors

Must read

A senior cleric in Edo State has been taken into police custody following allegations of sexual abuse involving two underage sisters, a development that has triggered public concern and renewed calls for child protection within religious spaces.

State officials confirmed that the suspect, identified as the founder of Rollo Life of Christ Brethren Ministry, is being questioned over complaints linked to the two siblings, both described as minors.

Moreover, the case has widened after additional young females reportedly approached authorities with similar accounts.

According to government sources, the arrest followed a discreet operation coordinated by relevant agencies after intelligence suggested the suspect might evade questioning. Hence, security officials moved in after days of monitoring his movements.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development said the allegations were not isolated.

“What we are seeing is a pattern that demands a thorough and transparent investigation. Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of every child involved,” the commissioner said.

Furthermore, advocates working with survivors disclosed that early assessments aligned with key elements of the complaints already submitted.

A representative of a sexual assault referral centre involved in the case noted that investigators were treating the matter with urgency and sensitivity.

“Initial checks support the need for deeper inquiry, and no report is being dismissed,” she said.

Meanwhile, the cleric has rejected claims of abuse involving minors.

In a brief response through associates, he maintained his innocence, insisting that he never engaged in any inappropriate conduct with underage persons.

Authorities, however, confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with more statements being recorded and evidence reviewed.

Consequently, officials said anyone with relevant information is encouraged to come forward as the case progresses.
