The Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) has opened nominations for its 7th edition, scheduled for May 2026.

This year’s awards introduce new categories, including communication undergraduates and online content creators.

This new move showcases the organization’s commitment to supporting young talent and embracing digital innovation.

According to Dr. Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, Chairman of the Joint IBAN/NBMA Organising Committee, the annual awards celebrate professionalism, creativity, and integrity in broadcasting. The event recognizes individuals, programs, and stations that positively impact society.

The 2026 edition presents over 85 categories, including Best Communication Student of the Year and Undergraduate Broadcaster Category.

Dr Ramalan noted that the new categories were intentionally introduced to bridge the gap between traditional broadcasting and digital platforms.

Nominations are open until March 3rd, 2026, and can be submitted online via www.nbmawards.com or sent to [email protected].

Members of the public, broadcast professionals, tertiary institutions, and industry stakeholders are invited to submit nominations for individuals and programs whose work has demonstrated excellence, consistency, creativity, and positive societal impact within the eligibility period.

The aim of this event, according to the announcement, is to unite broadcasters, regulators, and digital innovators, celebrating excellence in Nigeria’s media industry.

The event will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026. More details will be revealed in the upcoming months.
