Fresh details have surfaced over a reported mass abduction in southern Kaduna, contradicting official denials and raising new questions about the scale of the incident and the response from authorities.
Information obtained from community sources indicates that armed bandits stormed Kurmin Wali, a rural settlement in Kajuru Local Government Area, during church services, triggering panic among congregants and residents alike.
Witnesses said the attackers targeted ECWA Church and Cherubim and Seraphim Churches 1 and 2, firing gunshots into the air to force worshippers to flee before seizing dozens and disappearing into nearby forests.
However, while the Kaduna State Police Command publicly downplayed reports of a large-scale abduction, an internal police situation report paints a different picture, confirming that an attack occurred during Sunday worship.
Moreover, although the document reportedly mentioned that about 177 people were taken away by the assailants, a separate list that has now emerged contains the names of 137 worshippers believed to be in captivity.
