Edo State Police have arrested a commercial bus driver, Osabuohien Ogieva, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Joy Jerome, and dumping her corpse in order to cover up the act.
In the statement by the State Police spokesman, SP Eno Ikoedem, Joy’s body was found near Ikpe River in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state on 10 January, 2026.
According to reports, Ogieva and Joy were having a misunderstanding, where the boyfriend in the process, struck her with a stick and rushed her to the hospital when she became unconscious.
Sources revealed that the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the suspect took her corpse to an unknown destination before it was found later.
Ikpe residence raised the alarm after discovering the dead body. The police launched investigation and the suspects was apprehended upon trying to hide.
Ikoedem also confirmed that the deceased was deposited at the Stella Obasanjo mortuary after the police visit at the hospital she was taken.
She disclosed that the suspect, in the police custody confessed to the crime, stating he had a disagreement with the girlfriend on January 9, 2026, while driving her in his bus, which insulted in the killing.
She said the suspect later contacted family of the deceased and claimed not to have seen her for some days.
The police spokesman said investigation into this matter has been concluded and the 42-year old driver will soon be charged to court.
