DSS summons kingmakers, contestants over Awujale stool

Must read

The Department of State Services has summoned kingmakers and contenders for the Awujale stool to its office in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, amid developments in the traditional succession process.

The security agency was said to have cancelled a meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Awujale Palace, directing all nominees to appear before its operatives instead.

A letter dated January 21, 2026, and signed by the Secretary of the Awujale Afobaje Council, Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, conveyed the directive to the nominees.

According to the letter, the meeting at the palace was called off, while the nominees were instructed to report to the DSS office by 11am.

As of Wednesday morning, security operatives were also reported to have sealed off the Awujale Palace, restricting access to the historic site.

Sources said the action was taken to maintain order and prevent any breach of peace as the selection process unfolds.

Efforts to get an official reaction from the DSS and the Awujale Palace were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
