Troops uncover Boko Haram underground supply hub in Borno

Must read

Troops of the Nigerian military under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground logistics base used by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

The discovery followed intelligence-driven operations carried out on Sunday in the Timbuktu Triangle, spanning Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma communities.

Confirming the development on Monday, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Uba Sani, said the operation was part of the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity.

He explained that troops moved out on January 18, launching coordinated assaults on known terrorist enclaves with support from the air component, which provided surveillance and real-time intelligence.

According to Sani, the air-ground coordination helped disrupt insurgent movements, weakened their resistance and improved the effectiveness of the ground assault.

Items recovered from the underground facility included communication gadgets, ammunition, fuel, medical supplies, grinding machines, food items, a pick-up vehicle and Boko Haram and ISWAP flags.

The spokesman added that troops also came under armed drone attacks during the operation but successfully repelled the assaults and sustained the offensive.

He said the operation significantly degraded the terrorists’ logistics network, noting that troops remain on high alert as the military continues efforts to restore peace in the North-East.
