A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said the growing alliance between the party and the Obidient Movement is capable of displacing the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general election.
Odigie-Oyegun, a former national chairman of the APC, spoke on Monday in Benin, Edo State, during the formal defection of members of the Obidient Movement into the ADC.
The development followed the recent move by the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join the ADC, a step the party believes has strengthened its national outlook.
Welcoming the defectors, Odigie-Oyegun said the influx of Obidient supporters reflected the readiness of Nigerians, especially young people, to take ownership of the struggle for political change and national renewal.
He said the calibre and commitment of new members joining the party showed that the quest for a better Nigeria was realistic and achievable through collective action.
Also speaking, the Edo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Asemota Idiogbe, described the ADC as the most viable platform to challenge the APC in Edo State and at the national level.
Idiogbe expressed confidence that the party would produce Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and ultimately win power, stressing that the movement had joined the ADC to mobilise voters rather than seek personal benefits.
The Edo State Chairman of the ADC, Kenneth Odion, and the party’s Woman Leader, Faith Ebodaghe, described the development as a boost to the party’s electoral prospects, urging members, particularly women and youths, to remain active in the push to unseat the ruling party.
