President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a high-profile meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, fueling speculation about the governor’s potential switch to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Daily Trust, Governor Yusuf arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja around 4:10 pm, dressed in a white Agbada and a red cap, meeting the president in what aides described as “an in-depth discussion on political strategy.”
Political observers have been closely monitoring the governor’s reported plans to leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) after weeks of public debate.
Sources familiar with the matter hinted that “the talks may centre on terms for the 2027 elections,” including whether Yusuf could secure an automatic APC ticket.
The possible defection has reportedly strained relations between Governor Yusuf and his long-time political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with insiders noting that “supporters on both sides are anxious about the outcome of these negotiations.”
While neither the President nor the Governor has made official statements, political analysts suggest the meeting could be pivotal in shaping Kano’s electoral landscape ahead of 2027.
One analyst commented, “This conversation might decide the alignment of a major northern political bloc.”
