The father of Umar Auwalu, the man accused of killing a housewife and her six children, has publicly called for the execution of his son by the authorities.
Speaking during a radio programme in Kano, the elderly man distanced himself from his son’s alleged actions, insisting that society would be safer if justice is delivered without hesitation.
He argued that delays could undermine public confidence in the legal system.
According to him, individuals accused of crimes of such magnitude should not be treated with leniency.
He maintained that decisive punishment would serve as a deterrent and help restore sanity within affected communities.
The suspect’s father further claimed that the same son may be linked to another violent incident reported in the area weeks earlier.
He said the pattern of events had raised long-standing concerns within the family.
“I believe this did not start today,” he said. “There are strong signs that more crimes may have been committed quietly before now, and this arrest has only brought everything to light.”
He also warned against political interference in the judicial process, stressing that prolonged detention without trial could open doors for backdoor negotiations. “Justice delayed in cases like this often turns into justice denied,” he added.
Meanwhile, security agencies have continued investigations into the killings, as public attention remains fixed on how quickly prosecutors will move the case to court.
The incident has sparked renewed debate in Kano over criminal accountability and the need for faster trials in capital offences.
