AAUA workers give Ondo 14-day deadline over unpaid benefits

Must read

Workers at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Ondo State Government and the university authorities to clear long-standing salary and allowance arrears or risk industrial action.

The warning followed a congress of the Joint Action Committee comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non-Academic Staff Union and the National Association of Academic Technologists.

In a communiqué released after the meeting, the unions called for the immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements owed to their members.

The document was jointly signed by the AAUA chairmen of SSANU, Comrade A. Olutayo Ogungbeni; NASU, Comrade Clement Abiodun Ekundayo; and NAAT, Comrade Johnson O. Fagbemi.

According to the unions, the unpaid benefits include 54 months of arrears arising from the 2019 national minimum wage, promotion arrears, gratuities owed to retired workers and five years of excess workload allowances.

They also demanded the settlement of unpaid salary increments, third-party deductions, entitlements of reabsorbed staff and the implementation of the career structure committee’s recommendations.

The workers warned that failure by the state government, the university’s governing council and management to address the issues within the stipulated period could lead to an industrial crisis capable of disrupting academic activities at the institution.
