A policeman has been killed while repelling an attack by suspected kidnappers at a company along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State.
The slain officer, whose identity had yet to be disclosed as of press time, died from injuries sustained during the Saturday raid on Aqua Triton Company, located at Ogunmakin, near Ibadan.
It was gathered that the gunmen, who operated in commando fashion, succeeded in abducting a Chinese expatriate during the assault.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Ayanlade said, “There was an attack at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, where unidentified gunmen stormed the facility in a commando-style operation.
“One police officer tragically lost his life while repelling the attackers. However, he managed to injure some of the assailants before succumbing to his wounds.
The Chinese expatriate, who is the principal officer at the company, was abducted during the raid.”
The police spokesperson did not provide details on whether any arrests had been made or if a rescue operation was underway.
