Commercial driver nabbed as police uncover suspected human parts in vehicle

Must read

Police operatives in Oyo State have taken a commercial driver into custody after a routine highway inspection uncovered items believed to be human remains inside his vehicle.

The arrest followed a stop-and-search operation conducted by police patrol teams along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Guru Maharaji Village corridor, a busy route linking several South-West states.

According to the police, the vehicle was en route from Lagos to Osogbo and was carrying both passengers and assorted luggage at the time it was flagged down.

However, the situation escalated when officers extended the routine check to the vehicle’s contents.

During the search, items wrapped in a red cloth and suspected to be parts of a human body were reportedly found concealed among passengers’ belongings.

Confirming the development, the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the discovery immediately raised red flags for the patrol team.

“This was a routine operation that suddenly became a serious criminal investigation,” Ayanlade said.

“The manner in which the items were hidden suggested deliberate intent, and that warranted immediate arrest.”

The suspect, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was promptly detained at the scene and transferred for further questioning, police sources confirmed.

Meanwhile, investigators have launched an expanded investigation to determine the origin of the items and their intended destination.

Police said the inquiry is not limited to Oyo State, as officers are tracing possible links across state lines.

“Our investigators are working to establish the source and intended use of the recovered items,” the police spokesperson said.

“Anyone connected to this incident will be identified and brought in.”

Furthermore, the command assured residents that the case would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded, stressing that due process would be followed.

“The suspect will face charges in court at the appropriate time,” Ayanlade added.

The police also reaffirmed their commitment to intensified patrols and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations on major highways, noting that sustained visibility remains critical to disrupting criminal networks and improving public safety.
