A former Senate Minority Leader, Simon Mwadkwon, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State.
Mwadkwon, who previously represented Plateau North in the Senate, announced his defection during a visit to APC elders in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The former lawmaker said his decision followed wide consultations with constituents, political stakeholders, family members and associates across the senatorial district.
He described the move as a strategic realignment aimed at enhancing collaboration and strengthening the representation of Plateau North at the national level.
Mwadkwon added that the decision was driven by his desire to work closely with leaders committed to improving governance and ensuring effective participation in key policy discussions.
He also disclosed plans to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat on the APC platform ahead of the 2027 general election.
Welcoming him into the party, the chairman of the APC elders’ council in Barkin Ladi, Solomon Bature, said the party remained open to Nigerians willing to uphold its principles.
Bature urged party members to remain loyal and committed to the growth of the APC, describing Mwadkwon’s defection as a boost to the party in the state.
