Defection Rumours: Gov Yusuf turns up in Kwankwasiyya cap, NNPP colours

Must read

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday appeared at the first State Executive Council meeting of the year wearing the signature Kwankwasiyya red cap and displaying the New Nigeria Peoples Party flag.

The council meeting, which held in Abuja, was attended by all state commissioners as well as the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, who has also been mentioned in recent talks about alleged political realignments within the state leadership.

Yusuf’s appearance in party colours was widely interpreted as a symbolic message at a time when rumours had suggested he might be considering a switch in political allegiance.

Addressing members of the council, the governor called for unity, resilience and cooperation, stressing that harmony within his cabinet was essential to delivering meaningful development to the people of Kano.

He urged commissioners to see themselves as one family working towards a common goal, emphasising mutual respect and understanding as key ingredients for effective governance.

The governor’s remarks appeared to dampen expectations in some quarters that he would use the meeting to announce a change in party affiliation.

Yusuf also outlined some of the administration’s development priorities, placing strong emphasis on youth empowerment as a pathway to economic growth.

He disclosed plans by the state government to launch employment and skills acquisition programmes targeted at about 50,000 youths in 2026.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies aimed at promoting inclusive development, social stability and sustained economic progress across Kano State.
