Must read

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested officers accused of assaulting a commercial tricycle rider after a video of the incident surfaced online and sparked public outrage across social media platforms.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, condemned the conduct of the officers, describing it as unprofessional and inconsistent with the standards expected of law enforcement personnel.

He said the Command does not tolerate brutality, abuse of power, or any form of human rights violation.

According to the police chief, the officers captured in the viral footage have been taken into custody, while disciplinary proceedings have commenced in line with the Police Act and other applicable regulations guiding police conduct.

Furthermore, Edebor reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to lawful and people-centred policing, stressing that the safety and dignity of residents remain a priority.

He warned that officers found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.

“The Command remains resolute in protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring accountability within the Force,” he said, adding that professionalism must guide all police operations across the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa State, Musa Mohammed Anipr, who assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and handled transparently.
