Kebbi man kills wife after domestic dispute

Must read

A young woman has lost her life in a domestic violence incident that has shaken a quiet community in Kebbi State, prompting swift police action and renewed calls for vigilance against household crimes.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Umaima Maidawa, was allegedly killed by her husband during a violent altercation inside their home, according to preliminary police findings.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect reportedly used a wooden hoe handle to strike his wife during the incident, leading to fatal injuries.

The attack occurred in the early hours of the day, catching neighbours off guard.

Following the killing, the husband reportedly fled the area, raising fears that he might evade justice.

However, sustained intelligence gathering and cooperation from residents later led to his arrest.

Confirming the development on Friday, the Kebbi State Police Command said the suspect, a 30-year-old man, was tracked and apprehended after credible information from the community helped investigators narrow his movements.

Moreover, the police authorities said the matter has now been escalated for deeper investigation.

The Commissioner of Police ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure a thorough and impartial probe.

Police officials stressed that the suspect will be prosecuted in line with the law once investigations are concluded, adding that justice will be pursued without compromise.

Meanwhile, the command appealed to residents across Kebbi State, particularly in rural communities such as Augie Local Government Area, to report early signs of domestic violence and suspicious activities.

Authorities noted that timely reports and community cooperation remain critical in preventing avoidable deaths and strengthening public safety across the state.
