Don’t celebrate defection of Atiku’s son – Ex-APC presidential aspirant warns

Adamu Garba, a onetime All Progressives Congress presidential hopeful, has raised concerns over the party’s reception of Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a statement posted on his X account, Garba described the development as worrisome, urging party faithful to reconsider their enthusiasm over the switch.

“As an APC member, I find nothing commendable in Abba’s decision to join our fold, particularly for those of us who are parents,” he stated.

The former aspirant questioned the propriety of applauding what he termed a betrayal of family bonds, especially at a critical moment in the elder Abubakar’s political career.

“I hope those jubilating never experience a day when their own children abandon them in their hour of need,” Garba remarked.

He maintained that personal ambition must not trump core values, adding that filial loyalty mirrors deeper character.

“A child capable of forsaking his father at such a crucial time will not hesitate to betray anyone else,” he warned.

Abba formalized his exit from the PDP the platform on which his father challenged President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential poll.

The younger Abubakar was ushered into the APC by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, along with prominent party figures from the North-East zone, during a ceremony at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

“I am Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, known as Abba. Today, I officially renounce my membership of my previous party and embrace the APC,” he told party leaders and supporters gathered at the occasion.

He identified the Deputy Senate President’s leadership as influential in his choice.

Abba pledged to rally support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Alongside Senator Barau, I will dedicate efforts towards securing a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

“Consequently, I am instructing all coordinators under my network to register with the APC and champion the President’s cause,” he declared.
