The member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to a former lawmaker, Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefioye, to either withdraw or substantiate a claim allegedly made against him on social media.
In a statement released on Thursday, Akingbaso dismissed the allegation as unfounded and politically motivated, insisting it was an attempt to stir public sympathy following Adefioye’s rejection at the polls.
The lawmaker said the former representative allegedly circulated a WhatsApp status on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, accusing him of making inciting remarks during the last governorship campaign in Idanre.
According to Akingbaso, the claim crossed a red line because it involved the life and reputation of a prominent individual in the state, making it impossible to ignore.
He therefore demanded that Adefioye present credible evidence to back up the allegation within 48 hours, warning that silence or failure to do so would amount to deliberate character assassination.
Akingbaso said he would not hesitate to explore legal remedies if the claim was not retracted or proven, describing the action as cyber harassment and abuse of the digital space.
He also urged political actors to conduct themselves with decorum, noting that freedom of expression should not be used as a cover for misinformation.
The lawmaker, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the matter unfolds.
