Kwankwaso sets conditions for possible APC defection

Must read

A former Governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said he has not ruled out joining the All Progressives Congress but insisted that any decision would be guided by guarantees on the future of the Kano State Government and the protection of his political base.

Kwankwaso stated this on Wednesday while addressing party leaders, supporters from Rano and Dawakin Tofa local government areas, and members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement at his residence on Miller Road, Kano.

He said his stance had been misinterpreted in some quarters, stressing that he was not opposed to the APC but remained cautious due to lessons from previous political experiences.

According to him, any defection must come with clear assurances on what would become of the state government, elected lawmakers and supporters aligned with his political structure.

Kwankwaso recalled past alliances in which his camp played key roles in bringing governments to power, only to be sidelined afterwards, a situation he said informed his current position.

He added that, so far, there had been no firm commitment guaranteeing the preservation of the Kwankwasiyya political structure or the interests of its members.

The former governor said he needed clarity on his political future and the fate of his supporters before making any move.
