Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has praised the Super Eagles for their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite their semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco on Wednesday.
Obi commended the team’s display at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, urging them to remain proud of their achievement and continue making the nation proud.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, he applauded Eric Chelle’s men for reaching the last four of the tournament.
“Thank you for a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play. You showed your strength and prowess against all odds,” Obi wrote.
“The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud. Keep your heads high; the Eagle never stops soaring. There is another stage — let’s go get that medal. You have done well.”
AFRIPOST reports that Nigeria’s quest for a fourth AFCON title came to an end after the Super Eagles lost 4–2 on penalties to Morocco, following a goalless draw after 120 minutes.
Morocco will now face Senegal in the final on Sunday, while Nigeria will battle Egypt in the third-place playoff on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
