The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, over the alleged killing of his fellow hunter, Femi Oyedepo, during a hunting expedition in Ibadan.
The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday, January 7, at the Oretan Ijaiye area of Moniya, in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources disclosed that the victim reportedly collapsed and died instantly after being hit by a gunshot during the outing.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said:
“On January 7, 2026, at about 21:20 hours, Waheed Rasaki, male, 35 years, of Oretan Ijaiye Area, Moniya, reported to Moniya Division that earlier on the same date, at about 14:00 hours, he had mistakenly shot his colleague, Femi Oyedepo, male, during a hunting expedition at Oretan Ijaiye Forest.
“The victim slumped and died on the spot. Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly visited the scene, discovered the lifeless body, and arrested the suspect, who is currently in police custody.
“Further investigations have commenced. This case underscores the Command’s prompt response to both criminal and accidental fatalities, ensuring accountability and justice,” the PPRO stated.
In a related development, the command also confirmed the arrest of one Olatunji Segun in connection with the killing of a student of Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic, Saki.
Ayanlade said the police responded to a distress call over a violent altercation involving students of the institution at the Challenge 1 area, behind the school, where one student was shot and later died at a private hospital.
He added that one expended cartridge was recovered at the scene, while the suspect was taken into custody as investigations continue.
The police assured residents of the state of their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
