Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have asked their colleagues to halt the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made the appeal on Wednesday, joining growing calls for restraint within the Assembly.
Their intervention came two days after two other legislators publicly urged the House to step back from the impeachment move and seek alternative ways to resolve the political crisis.
Earlier on Monday, Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo and Peter Abbey had broken ranks with the majority, calling for caution and dialogue amid the rising tension between the executive and legislative arms.
The latest appeal was made during a press briefing held in Port Harcourt, where the lawmakers advocated reconciliation rather than confrontation.
Speaking at the briefing, Nwankwo, the Minority Leader and member representing Omuma State Constituency, said appeals had poured in from leaders within and outside Rivers State, urging the Assembly to exercise leniency.
Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency, acknowledged alleged constitutional breaches by the governor but stressed that errors can occur, adding that corrective steps and assurances against a repeat should take precedence over impeachment.
