Troops kill eight terrorists, 11 others surrender in Borno

Must read

Sustained military pressure across parts of Borno State has compelled at least 11 terrorist fighters to lay down their arms, as troops neutralised eight insurgents and dismantled multiple hideouts during coordinated operations.

The breakthroughs followed renewed offensives by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who intensified clearance and fighting patrols across key flashpoints linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP elements.

Military sources said the latest surrenders occurred along the Azir–Wajiroko corridor, where persistent ground and aerial pressure left insurgents with limited escape options.

Consequently, several fighters reportedly abandoned their camps and surrendered with rifles and ammunition.

Confirming the development, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Sani Uba, described the outcome as a direct result of what he called “relentless operational dominance” by troops.

According to him, the operation, conducted under the code name DESERT SANITY V, was designed to suffocate terrorist movements and disrupt their supply routes.

“The tempo of our operations has made it increasingly difficult for these groups to operate or hide,” Uba said.

Moreover, troops advanced into the Bulaagalda axis, where several long-standing terrorist enclaves were overrun.

Camps located at Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile were destroyed, including facilities linked to notorious field commanders.

Military officials said the cleared locations were used for training, coordination and logistics.

Hence, troops dismantled shelters, destroyed support structures and recovered weapons, magazines and other items linked to insurgent activity.

Further operations in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas yielded similar results, as terrorists fled under pressure.

In the process, soldiers recovered additional arms and ammunition, including a general-purpose machine gun.

Meanwhile, acting on actionable intelligence, troops engaged insurgents between Sojiri and Kayamla villages. The encounter led to the killing of eight fighters and the seizure of AK-47 rifles.

In a separate but related development, two suspected logistics suppliers were arrested in Gubio Local Government Area.

Security sources said the suspects were believed to be providing food, fuel and other supplies to terrorist cells.

Lt Col Uba said the arrests underscored the military’s focus on dismantling not only fighting units but also the support networks that sustain insurgency.

“We are targeting the entire chain, from fighters to financiers and suppliers,” he said.

He assured residents of the North-East that operations would continue without pause.

According to him, the objective remains the total degradation of terrorist networks and the restoration of lasting peace across the region.
