Three students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, have died in a fatal road accident in Ilesha, Osun State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday, involved an 18-seater commercial bus and a truck, sources said.
The Student Union President, Comrade Salami Ologbon, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation, stating that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in the town.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the entire university community.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the union, Comrade Ajidagba Akinbobola, disclosed that the commercial bus was traveling from Ojota, Lagos State, when the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
He added that several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were receiving medical attention at a hospital in Ilesha.
The Students Union Government said it had contacted the families of the victims to offer support and assistance during the difficult period.
The union prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed students and pledged to provide further information as details of the incident become available.
Efforts to reach the Osun State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time.
