The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old herder, Aliyu Haman, for allegedly stabbing his brother to death in Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the victim, Umaru Haman, also 20, was killed in his sleep at Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station.
According to Edafe, the incident occurred around 3:20am on January 8, 2025, and was reported to the Ogwashi-Uku Division at about 7:31am the same day.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon, immediately deployed detectives to the scene following the report, the statement added.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, a herder and suspected drug addict, allegedly stabbed his sibling to death while he slept.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was arrested and the murder weapon recovered.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi-Uku, for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody.
Edafe said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
