Kwankwaso sets condition for 2027 alliance

Must read

The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he will only align with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.

Kwankwaso made this known on Thursday while addressing members of the Kwankwasiyya movement at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where discussions centred on political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.

“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with. But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot,” the former Kano State governor stated categorically.

The declaration comes amid swirling speculations regarding a possible defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Responding to the rumours, Kwankwaso dismissed them as baseless and unrealistic.

“That is nothing but a dream,” he said tersely.

The NNPP leader also took a swipe at the political strategy of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that numerical superiority within a party does not automatically guarantee electoral victory.

He insisted that credibility, popular support, and demonstrable performance remain the decisive factors in electoral outcomes, not merely the number of governors a party parades.

However, the NNPP leader’s insistence on securing a top ticket suggests he remains unwilling to play second fiddle in any merger arrangement.
